Key Features

Gabion Mesh & Gabion Box

01

Double-twist hexagonal weave — a broken wire cannot unravel; baskets stay stable under load.

02

Two mesh openings — 60×80 mm and 80×100 mm for boxes, mattresses and revetments.

03

Wire diameters 2.0–4.0 mm — selected for structure, load and site conditions.

04

Galvanized, Galfan or PVC-coated — long service life in river water and coastal air.

05

Two supply forms — mesh in rolls or panels; boxes and mattresses flat-packed for fast site assembly.

06

Permeable and flexible — free drainage, tolerance of ground movement, natural revegetation.

Description

What is gabion mesh & gabion box? Gabion mesh is the double-twist hexagonal woven wire mesh used to build gabion structures; gabion boxes and reno mattresses are the same mesh factory-laced into dimensioned baskets, delivered flat-packed and filled with stone on site. PULU supplies both forms under one product line: mesh openings of 60×80 mm and 80×100 mm, wire diameters of 2.0–4.0 mm, and galvanized, Galfan or PVC-coated finishes. Custom dimensions are available according to specification and order quantity.

Overview

Gabion mesh is the raw material behind gabion engineering. While finished gabion boxes and mattresses are supplied as folded panels ready to fill with stone, gabion mesh is the woven mesh itself — supplied to gabion manufacturers who fabricate their own baskets, and to projects that process mesh on site. The double-twist hexagonal structure is flexible and permeable: it tolerates ground movement, drains freely and allows vegetation to grow through, which is why gabion structures are widely used in civil engineering works.

One product line, two supply forms: order gabion mesh in rolls or panels when you fabricate or wrap on site, and order gabion boxes and mattresses when you need ready-made, dimensioned units that only require lacing and filling. Both are produced from the same double-twist hexagonal fabric, so specifications, coatings and quality documents stay identical across the two forms.

Materials & Coatings

Standard wire options: hot-dip galvanized (EN 10244-2), Galfan zinc-5%-aluminium alloy coated for roughly 2–3× the corrosion life of plain zinc, or galvanized + PVC coating for aggressive water, polluted rivers and coastal/marine sites. PVC is UV-stabilized and grey or green coloured to blend with the landscape. Selvedge and lacing wire are supplied to match; every production batch can be supported with SGS / BV third-party test reports for mesh size, wire diameter, tensile strength and coating mass.

Applications

  • Retaining structures and gravity walls
  • River training, bank revetment and scour protection
  • Erosion control on slopes and embankments
  • Weirs, canal linings, culvert outfalls and bridge protection
  • Slope stabilization; road and railway cut/fill slopes
  • Landscaping and architectural stonework
  • Civil engineering and foundation works

Packing & Delivery

Baskets are folded flat and pressed into bundles, strapped on steel pallets and loaded in bulk into containers — a 20′ container typically holds 2,000–3,000 m² of assembled gabion volume depending on mesh size and coating. MOQ is 100 sets, standard lead time 15–22 days after deposit. Samples are available for approval before ordering.

Gabion Mesh or Gabion Box — Which Form to Order?

Choose mesh in rolls or panels when your team fabricates baskets or works the material on site; choose boxes and mattresses when the project needs ready-made, dimensioned units that only require lacing and filling. Because both forms are made from the same double-twist weave, switching between them never changes the specification, coating or quality documents. Not sure which fits your project? Tell us the application and target market and we will recommend mesh size, wire diameter and coating. For other woven mesh families, see hexagonal wire mesh and welded wire mesh, or contact PULU for a quotation.

Gabion Mesh vs Gabion Box & Mattress: Which Should You Quote?

Not sure whether to buy the mesh or the fabricated units? Read the Gabion Mesh vs Gabion Box & Mattress buyer guide for a side-by-side comparison of mesh sizes, wire diameters, packaging and ordering, then send us your specification for a quotation.

Galvanized (Galfan) or PVC Coated Gabion Mesh?

Gabion mesh is supplied galvanized (Galfan) and PVC coated over the galvanized core for aggressive soils and water. The Galvanized vs PVC Coated Wire Mesh guide compares both protections so you can match the coating to the soil and water conditions of your project.
